Sachin breaks record on Twitter too

The God of cricket, Sachin Tendulkar, has added another feather in his cap and is inching closer to yet another record - and we don't mean his 100th international century.

On Wednesday morning, the Master Blaster went past MP Shashi Tharoor to become the No 1 Indian celebrity on microblogging site Twitter. By evening he was less than 20,000 followers short of reaching the one million-mark on the site. Sachin (@sachin_rt) would be the first Indian in the world to have reached this mark on the popular network.

Tendulkar joined Twitter a year ago, on May 4, 2010. His first tweet had read, "Finally the original SRT is on twitter n the first thing I'd like to do is wish my colleagues the best in the windies." Sachin was referring to the Indian team that had left for the West Indies at the time to play the ICC T20 World Cup.

Since then he has tweeted 236 times, his most recent being a string of posts after the World Cup victory. "Lets hope this Team India achievement inspires every one to believe in their dreams n abilities... and to put in the hard work necessary to chase and achieve their dreams :-)," he said. These tweets came after a four-month gap.

On Wednesday, Tendulkar received support from actor Shahid Kapoor, who urged his own followers (4.57 lakh on last count) to help Sachin reach the million-follower mark. Kapoor tweeted, "@sachin_rt 25 k away from a mill followers ... Make it happen today people .... He the legend !!!!"
