Sachin Tendulkar not hit by tension: Azhar
Former Indian captain Mohammed Azharuddin said he did not think that Sachin Tendulkar was plagued by tension in the Australia series and hoped that his hundredth century would come soon.
“I don’t see tension in Sachin. His 100th century will definitely come soon but we should think about other players. Batting has not been good in matches played outside the country because we fail to give a good start,” the former cricketer said here on the poor performance of Team India’s performance in overseas tour.
The cricketer-turned-MP was here on Tuesday to attend the concluding programme of 58th Jharkhand State Lohardaga Open Athletics Meet at Lalit Narayan Mishra Stadium organized by the Lohardaga District Athletics Association. He said he liked visiting the town on a request of Rajya Sabha MP Dheeraj Prasad Sahu, the association chairman, and would love to visit it again.
He said he was overwhelmed with the hospitality this small town showed to him.
Talking to the media, the former cricketer said every non-performing cricketer – be they senior or junior – must be replaced by new cricketers. “Rohit Sharma and several other players can be given chance.”
Later, he addressed the people of Lohardaga and athletes from across Jharkhand. He began by saying, “I won’t talk of cricket because you are well aware of Indian Team’s condition.”
Azharuddin spent some hours in a farm house in the lap of nature on the bank of the Koel at Nandgaon in Maoist-affected Senha block of Lohardaga. On a proposal for opening a cricket academy after his name, he promised to give every possible help for promoting cricket in Lohardaga and other parts of Jharkhand.
He paid tributes to the founder of athletics meet in Lohardaga Shiv Prasad Sahu who in 1951 had founded the association. He also distributed prizes to the winners. Hundreds of Lohardaga Convent School students presented a mass drill showing India’s unity in diversity to welcome him.
