Vote For Sachin To Be The Indian Of The Year
Sachin Tendulkar: Master Blaster
The year 2010 was such a phenomenal year for the Little Master that even the Oxford dictionary has somewhat run out of adjectives to describe his feats. In 2010, Sachin became the first ever player in the history of ODI cricket to score a double hundred. He is also the first player ever to close in on fifty test hundreds (which he may well accomplish by the time the year draws to a close). Making the year all the more special are the big awards and bigger nominations. Sachin has won the ICC Cricketer of the Year 2010 award while he has also been nominated for the hugely prestigious Laureus Sports Awards, the result of which will be known in January 2011.
The macro picture has been even better. Thanks to Sachin's efforts during the year, India catapulted several notches to the numero uno slot in world rankings and they have stayed there. The masterly innings in the Bangalore Test against Australia ensured the Aussies drew a blank on Indian soil. Having completed twenty years in international cricket this year, Sachin could have afforded the occasional complacency of a champion sportsperson. But, when he said 'at least with me, the match starts much, much earlier than the actual match', he just showed why he is the most gifted and dedicated cricketer the world has seen in the modern era.
The year 2010 saw the emergence of Sachin Tendulkar as the undisputed King of world cricket. Unlike many 'disputed' years, which debated who was the greatest after Bradman, 2010 simply and fully belonged to Sachin Tendulkar. The year even made Sachin's closest rival of all-time, world-record holder Brian Charles Lara acknowledge Sachin as only next to the Don in cricketing greatness.
As India enters yet another World Cup, the biggest hope post 1983 remains. This could well be the Master Blaster's last shot at the cup that has always slipped out of his hand. And he has candidly admitted his keenness to make it the most special one. With such a year behind him, Sachin is sure one of the big contenders for MSN Indian of the Year.
