Without doubt the most enduring phenomenon in modern cricket and India's biggest sporting icon, Sachin Tendulkar is all set for an epic curtain call starting on Wednesday when he steps on the field against the West Indies for his 200th and final Test where emotions will weigh heavy.

For once, an individual would be the focus even though it is a clash of two teams and why not, given that the individual in question is a man who successfully transformed from a prodigal talent to a living legend in 24 glorious years.

Tendulkar has been synonymous with the game in India for more than two decades and held in awe and admiration all over the cricket-playing world.

As a curly-haired teen with unbelievable talent, he walked in to the cricket field and the hearts of his fans quite effortlessly ever since his debut in 1989. And such has been his domination in both the places that the vacuum he would leave seems unfillable.

Having won the first Test by an innings and 51 runs, Team India and their senior-most statesman will be focused on inflicting another humiliating defeat on a mediocre Caribbean outfit at the Wankhede Stadium.
But the scores and statistics will certainly take backseat for the next few days as a nation gets ready to bid farewell to arguably its greatest and most revered sporting icon. (PTI)

Sachin Tendulkar said he felt "very humbled" after the Mumbai Cricket Association on Monday formally renamed the Kandivili ground as the Sachin Tendulkar Gymkhana Club. The 40-year-old who will be playing his 200th and last Test match in Mumbai from November 14 already has a stand named after him at the famous Wankhede Stadium.
In a high-profile ceremony attended by MCA president Sharad Pawar and Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan, Tendulkar, dressed in Team India's navy blue T shirt and jeans, was the cynosure of all eyes even as players from both the Indian and the West Indian teams attended the ceremony. Tendulkar thanked the media and officials for making his farewell a "splendid one." (NDTV)

Preparing for his last outing at the iconic Eden Gardens, legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar was a picture of focus and concentration as the Indian team hit the nets on Monday ahead of the all important Test match against the West Indies beginning November 6.

Tendulkar started off with some warm up exercises and subsequently rolled his arm over at the nets.

Bowling in tandem with spinners Ravichandran Ashwin and Pragyan Ojha, Tendulkar dished out leg breaks and Murali Vijay had some difficulty negotiating the spin at the nets. He was beaten on a couple of occasions by Tendulkar's sharp turning deliveries.

After bowling for a few minutes, the Little Master padded up and chatted with coach Duncan Fletcher as he waited for his turn at the nets.

He first faced the pacers, displaying his watertight defence. While other batsmen at the adjacent nets missed or edged a few, Tendulkar looked at ease hitting his trademark drives.

He tackled the pacers for around 15 minutes before moving to the adjacent net where the spinners were on the job. He also asked Ojha ,who was bowling more at the stumps, to alter his line which the left arm obliged.(PTI)

The sleepy town of Lahli in Haryana is all set to welcome Sachin Tendulkar and his Mumbai teammates as the Master Blaster gets ready to play his final Ranji Trophy game. Tendulkar and his teammates will drive down to Rohtak after arriving in Delhi by air. It is learnt Tendulkar and a few senior players may stay at a Haryana tourism guest house about 13 kilometers from the Chaudhary Bansi Lal Cricket Stadium in Lahli. The match against Haryana will be played from Sunday. ( NDTV)

The mood in the camp of 40-time Ranji Trophy champions Mumbai, ahead of their tournament opener in Haryana at Lahli, is poignant with the impending retirement of Sachin Tendulkar.

"It is an emotional mood in the dressing room. We are very much looking forward to that (Ranji opener from October 27 at Lahli). It's a great opportunity for everybody and not just the players, to be with Sachin," said Mumbai coach Sulakshan Kulkarni after the team's practice session today.

The iconic batsman will be quitting international cricket after playing the two-Test series against the West Indies at Kolkata (November 6-10) and here (November 14-18).
Former Mumbai keeper Sulakshan remembered the times when he and Tendulkar were teammates when the latter made his first class debut against Gujarat at the Wankhede Stadium. (PTI)

With Sachin Tendulkar set to play his last Ranji Trophy tie for Mumbai, former Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) chief Ranbir Mahendra said it's a great honour for Haryana and the state's cricket association to play host to someone who has been the game's legend.

"It's definitely a great honour for Haryana and Haryana Cricket Association that Sachin is set to play in our state, barely days before he retires," Mahendra, also a former Congress MLA from the state, told PTI over phone.
In order to prepare for the two-match Test series against the West Indies next month, Tendulkar will play for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy preliminary round match against Haryana from October 27-30 at Ch Bansi Lal stadium at Lahli, a small town in Rohtak district, about 270 km from Chandigarh.
Mahendra said that in 1989, when Tendulkar began his international career, he was the secretary of the BCCI.
