Sachin Tendulkar caused an uproar in the crowd when he arrived on the final day of the 50th anniversary celebrations of Maharashtra Day. He came after having won a cricket match at a nearby stadium. The cricketer was mobbed by VIPs and fans alike as he was escorted to his seat. Colleague Zaheer Khan was also in attendance and the cricketing duo received a sum of Rs1 crore each from CM Prithviraj Chavan and his ministers as a recognition for them having won the World Cup. Sonali Kulkarni and Amol Kolhe performed an extended tableau celebrating Maharashtrian culture. Other politicians present at this government-sponsored event included Vilasrao Deshmukh, Chhagan Bhujbal, RR Patil and Anil Deshmukh.
