Sachin Tendulkar gifts India jersey to CAB after 1st Test against West Indies

Eden Gardens bid adieu to Sachin Tendulkar on Friday, showering him with unstinted love, adulation and gifts as he took guard for one last time on the hallowed ground and the cricket icon reciprocated with a cherished parting gift for the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB).

"He was very kind and gave us the gloves and a white Team India jersey which he used during the last Test match against the West Indies. We would put them up in the museum," Cricket Association of Bengal joint secretary Subir Ganguly said.

Devastating bowling from debutant pacer Mohammed Shami saw India wrap the first Test inside three days as they handed West Indies a crushing innings and 51 runs defeat to go 1-0 up in the two-Test Tendulkar farewell series.

India's win by the third day also dashed CAB's hopes to give Tendulkar a grand send-off by showering him with 199kgs of rose petals from three aircrafts.

The permission for the airshow was taken only from the ATC for the last two days.

"By this we incurred losses of about Rs 1.3 lakhs but we hope to negotiate the amount," the joint-secretary said.

"With the match getting over two days before the scheduled close, we in fact saved a lot as we did not have to bear the catering cost, etc," he added.

The CAB had earlier gifted the maestro with a silver banyan tree with 199 golden leaves, and a 24-carat gold coin with Tendulkar's image embossed image that was used for the toss.
