Tendulkar-led Mumbai Indians are the favourites: Gilchrist

With IPL 4 nearing halfway mark of league stage, Kings XI Punjab skipper Adam Gilchrist on Monday said the competition is wide open, barring Mumbai Indians' strong position at the top, and every side would be desperately looking to win each game.

"Mumbai (Indians) now have five wins (from six games), but rest of the group is really packed in there and it is going to be very even competition," 39-year-old Gilchrist said on the sidelines of a promotional event. He reckoned Sachin Tendulkar-led Mumbai are the favourites in the competition.

"They are the best team in the competition, no doubt about that. They have a star-studded line-up that includes some good Indian domestic talent," he said, adding KXIP were looking forward for a good show in the away and home game against them next month.

I can only wish that Sachin has an off-day: Yuvi

It's really tough to pen down my feelings after the Delhi Daredevils game. It was a mixed sort of a day where I could be satisfied with my individual performance and extremely disappointed with the defeat. So I would pick the disappointment of losing the game over my all-round effort as I always believe that individual effort is of not much worth if it doesn't translate into the overall success of the team.

Video: Sachin's First IPL 100 Vs Kochi

Two weeks after the "proudest moment" of his career at the Wankhede Stadium, Sachin Tendulkar checked off another item on his ever-shrinking to-do list with his first century in Twenty20s. It wasn't the prettiest of his innings but he combined power and placement in a knock that propelled Mumbai Indians to 182 for 2 against Kochi Tuskers Kerala. Worryingly for the rest of the teams in the tournament, Mumbai didn't even need the awesome hitting-ability of Rohit Sharma, Andrew Symonds and Kieron Pollard to run up such a tall total.

Rayudu played a special knock: Sachin

Sachin Tendulkar was all praise for young Ambati Rayudu who smashed an unbeaten 63 during Mumbai Indians' nine-wicket win over Royal Challengers Bangalore here on Tuesday.

"It was a brilliant innings from the young man Rayudu. It was a special stuff," the maestro lavished praise on his young teammate.
Tendulkar said that they had discussed about restricting the opposition to 140 and he was happy that they were able to achieve that.
"When we started to bowl, we had hoped the target to be a maximum of 140. Malinga again provided us a great start. We also fielded well and it was another superb team effort. The idea was to bowl as straight as possible and we did just that."
However, the legendary batsman doesn't want his teammates to be complacent.
"We have had a good beginning and we have to maintain the consistency as there is still a long way to go."
Rayudu on his part credited Tendulkar and MI coach Robin Singh for his performance.

"I have worked hard at the nets under Robion sir. It's paying off now. Also it's good to get runs in Bangalore.
Rival captain Daniel Vettori conceded that 140 was a defendable total but his bowlers let him down

Sachin shares his MoM award with Rayudu

Sachin Tendulkar's magnanimity is well known in cricketing cricles and on Tuesday the legendary cricketer again proved that he is as big-hearted a human being as he is a cricketer when he decided to share his Man-of-the-Match award with young Ambati Rayudu.

After thrashing Royal Challengers Bangalore by nine wickets, Tendulkar came to the post-match presentation ceremony along with Rayudu.

As soon as the presenter Robin Jackman announced Tendulkar's name as Man-of-the-Match, Tendulkar walked up with Rayudu and announced, "It will be bad if I don't share this with Rayudu." The legend then handed over the cheque of Rs. 1 lakh to the youngster.

Sachin, Rayudu star in MI's thrashing of RCB

Skipper Sachin Tendulkar and young Ambati Rayudu clobbered the Royal Challengers Bangalore bowling as title contenders Mumbai Indians cruised to a nine wicket victory in an Indian Premier League match at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, here on Tuesday.
Chasing a target of 141, Mumbai Indians reached the target with nine balls to spare. Mumbai Indians now have two wins from as many matches.

On a strip where RCB batsmen struggled to get going, Tendulkar (55 not out, 46 balls, 7x4) and Ambati Rayudu (63 not out, 50 balls, 9x4) sent the RCB bowlers on a leatherhunt with an undefeated 110-run second wicket partnership from 86 balls.
They were also helped by some lacklustre fielding by the home team. It was Davy Jacobs (22, 16 balls, 2x4, 2x6) who started the charge by hitting Zaheer Khan for a couple of fours and two big sixes over long-on and deep mid-wicket.

Jacobs was cleaned up by Dirk Nannes when he backed too far down the leg-side trying to hit over extra cover. Tendulkar who was watching quietly from the other end then took it upon himself. A signature straight drive off Abhimanyu Mithun started it all. When the spinners came on, he was quick to rock on to the backfoot and hit them over deep mid-wicket.

Rayudu, who was watchful for the first few balls started with a flat-batted boundary over deep mid-wicket off Mithun and then followed it up by charging down the track and hitting the bowler through the covers. The youngster beat Tendulkar to his half-century in style when he lofted Asad Pathan for a boundary over extra cover.

Considered as an India prospect till he joined the rebel Indian Cricket League, the Hyderabadi who now plays for Baroda showed a glimpse of his talent when he clipped Zaheer over mid-wicket for a boundary and followed it with a lofted drive back over the bowler's head. He matched the legendary Tendulkar stroke-for stroke as never did MI look in any sort of trouble.
