West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday presented one of her paintings to Sachin Tendulkar even as the Eden Gardens crowd gave a standing ovation to the legendary batsman at the end of his 199th and penultimate Test match.
As a farewell tribute, Banerjee gifted him a painting of a tree, an artwork that has her trademark brush-strokes. A maverick painter, the Trinamool Congress supremo has made more than 200 paintings and has held three exhibitions.
As a mark of respect, Banerjee also presented Tendulkar with a turban, which the former India captain Sourav Ganguly put on the iconic batsman's head.
Kolkata Police Commissioner Surajit Kar Purkayastha presented a Durga idol to Tendulkar, while Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) president Jagmohan Dalmia gifted a statue of a banyan tree with 199 golden leaves, besides a golden coin that was ordered specially for the toss in this match.(PTI)
