The Network 18 group on Sunday paid rich tribute to retired batting legend Sachin Tendulkar, unveiling a monument in the form of a large steel bat in Mumbai.
The monument has been installed on the Carter Road Promenade - close to Tendulkar's residence. It is the largest steel bat in the world - standing more than 25 feet high and weighing over two tonnes.

The "Bat of Honour" is crafted out of stainless steel- and Sachin's emotional farewell speech- has also been etched on a plaque below the installation, to symbolise the flawless cricketing career of India's master blaster.

Sachin Tendulkar said he felt "very humbled" after the Mumbai Cricket Association on Monday formally renamed the Kandivili ground as the Sachin Tendulkar Gymkhana Club. The 40-year-old who will be playing his 200th and last Test match in Mumbai from November 14 already has a stand named after him at the famous Wankhede Stadium.

In a high-profile ceremony attended by MCA president Sharad Pawar and Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan, Tendulkar, dressed in Team India's navy blue T shirt and jeans, was the cynosure of all eyes even as players from both the Indian and the West Indian teams attended the ceremony. Sachin Tendulkar, a father of two, probably understands kids better than the rest. There was this boy in a group of blind kids who reminded Tendulkar of his blindness at the Chinnaswamy Stadium yesterday and the batting maestro shot back, "don't say that."

He wanted to make the kids feel better. The rest of the Indian team too were warm to the blind kids.
The previous evening, Tendulkar touched the life of nine-year-old Vachan Shetty forever. Vachan is a cerebral palsy patient.  He can't stand or walk without help. When we approached Tendulkar to meet him, he agreed willingly. He came down from his room to meet the kid and didn't take time to put him at ease. Tendulkar, who was felicitated by the Sports Journalists' Association of Mumbai here for scoring 100 international centuries, said that he wanted his 14-year-old son to have his own identity and not be compared with him.

"My son has played a match today. First club match, an official match. He is passionate, he is madly in love with cricket. But the other things that go around the cricketer and not just the on-field activity but whatever he gets to hear or gets to read or the way it gets projected, I would appreciate if everyone allows him to be himself and to have his own identity and enjoy his cricket above all," Tendulkar said.

"Since I am here and the entire sports journalists' fraternity is sitting over here, I am going to be a protective father. When I started playing cricket, though my father was a professor and was in literary field, at no stage I had this pressure from anyone who said you are playing cricket but how about following your father's footsteps," he said.

The autobiography of veteran actor-filmmaker Sachin Pilgaonkar, better known only by his first name, was released by legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar.

The autobiography titled Hach Maza Marg was released in the presence of actor(s) Amitabh Bachchan and Sonu Nigam, who also released the memoir's online version.Speaking on the occasion, Sachin Tendulkar said, character in the movie was later re-shot to replace the original version.

Even if many speculate Sachin Tendulkar retiring at the end of his 200th Test, almost certainly against the West Indies in Mumbai in November, the Little Master may have other ideas. The owner of a record 15837 Test runs, is still keeping cards close to his chest and is in no mood to oblige the media with his reactions on the 'extra' series the Indian cricket Board had planned immediately after the ODIs against Australia at home.

As per the BCCI's rotational policy, it is not Mumbai's turn to hold a Test match. Mumbai, which hosted a Test against England last season, is third behind Bangalore and Ahmedabad, but may get the nod due to 'sentimental' reasons(NDTV)

Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar said the changes brought into cricket, including the Twenty20 format, has made the sport more exciting and helped generate excitement in Test matches.

"Cricket is the only sport to have three formats and its only getting more exciting not only for players but also for spectators. There is creativity and more results are coming by (in longer version of the game). The batsmen are willing to take chances ...," he said on Saturday.

"T20 matches have brought innovation to the game. When it comes to Test cricket you need to adjust and no two players are similar, technique wise. Players have to stick to their basics, that is important," Sachin added. "T20 is only format where you can become a hero in three or four deliveries."

"You have to learn to play a few shots in Tests these days. You just can't block and block, which was the norm earlier," he said(PTI)

"Master blaster Sachin Tendulkar has taken a stand to bat for a noble cause discrimination against women. He has collaborated with director-actor Farhan Akhtar to recite a special poem in Marathi for MARD to create awareness among men to respect women and promote gender equality," MARD said in a statement.

The poem has been penned by veteran lyricist and poet Javed Akhtar. Originally penned in Hindi, the lyrics have been translated in different languages like Telugu, Tamil, Punjabi and Marathi. The Telugu version has been recited by Tollywood star Mahesh Babu.
